The gourd shape is incorporated into the cup design, with rounded, full contours that flow naturally from top to bottom. A footed design gives the cup a more upright and stable appearance. It retains the classical charm of the gourd shape while incorporating the minimalist, understated aesthetic of Song dynasty vessels.
The overall design features an antique-style glaze with a calm, soft color. Rather than pursuing a single, flat color, it reveals natural variations in depth and tone through light and shadow. The glaze is delicate and lustrous, with a rustic yet warm texture that enhances the quiet elegance of the tea tray.
The agate-in-glaze technique creates a soft, delicate texture after being tempered by the kiln fire. The glaze color may vary subtly depending on the viewing angle and ambient light, adding the distinctive, lively beauty of Ru ware.
The glaze may develop natural crazing during firing and subsequent use. The patterns are not hand-drawn; the direction, density, and glaze expression of the crazing may differ for each piece, creating a unique natural texture for every vessel.
